Founded in 1980 with the vision of giving natural honey the value it deserves, Balparmak has grown into one of Turkey's leading food companies within 46 years by combining science, nature, and beekeeping culture. Maintaining its pioneering position in the sector with its strong R&D infrastructure, sustainable production approach, and social investments in beekeeping, the company has once again improved its position in the ISO Second 500 list this year.
From Science to the Table, From the Hive to the World
Behind Balparmak's success lies a production philosophy that combines the miracle of nature with the latest scientific methods. APILAB, Türkiye's first specialized laboratory for bee products and one of four equivalent laboratories in Europe, applies innovative methods developed at Balparmak's R&D Center to identify imitation and adulteration, thus certifying the naturalness and reliability of all bee products through scientific analyses. Balparmak's R&D Center, which leads the International Honey Commission's (IHC) "Detection of Imitation and Adulteration in Bee Products" working group, continues its work as a global standard-setting institution.
Balparmak, which has proven its production philosophy supported by scientific analyses in international markets, currently exports to approximately 50 countries. The company, which has made significant contributions to the global recognition of Turkish pine honey, has removed the scientific obstacle to pine honey exports by bringing its newly developed C4 analysis method, specifically designed for pine honey, to the TSE (Turkish Standards Institution) standard. As a testament to this international recognition, Balparmak was awarded the "First Place Exporter in the Bee Products Category" award for 2025 by the Istanbul Seafood and Animal Products Exporters Association.
Investing in the Future of Beekeeping
Balparmak's growth story is not limited to production and export figures. Established in 2018 with the support of the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development), the Balparmak Beekeeping Academy has reached over 8.000 beekeepers and aspiring beekeepers, mostly women and young people, through training provided by academics. This structure contributes to the sustainability of the beekeeping profession while directly serving the protection of the ecosystem.
Balparmak General Manager Ulaş Altıparmak said the following regarding the matter:
“Being among Türkiye’s largest industrial enterprises as determined by ISO is a tangible reflection of our 46 years of hard work and our vision for sustainable growth. We see this achievement not just as a financial ranking, but as a testament to our brand journey, born from the intersection of our scientific approach, exports, agricultural development, and the strong bond we have established with our consumers.”
Balparmak's Financial Director, Kerem Ekinci, emphasized that maintaining their position in the ISO Second 500 list is a result of financial discipline and a long-term perspective. Ekinci stated, “Moving up our position in the ISO Second 500 list once again is more than just a result of growth figures; it is a result of effective resource management, financial discipline, and a long-term outlook. As Balparmak, we are sustaining growth through structural and cultural transformation. Our sustainability-focused approach in all our processes and our investments in R&D continue to form the basis of this success.”
