Throughout April, JW Marriott Istanbul Bosphorus is presenting a special selection of works by Ekber Sürsal, an artist who creates sculptures, reliefs, objects, and lighting pieces, focusing on themes of memory, mythology, and urban layers, within the historic fabric of Karaköy.
Bringing together the history, culture, and contemporary rhythm of Karaköy. JW Marriott Istanbul BosphorusThroughout April, the hotel is hosting a special selection of works by contemporary sculptor Ekber Sürsal. Located near Galataport and reinterpreting the historic Veli Alemdar Han building with a contemporary accommodation concept, the hotel offers its guests a city experience deepened by art. Spread across different areas of the hotel, the selection creates a strong dialogue between contemporary art and the architectural atmosphere, inviting both city residents and hotel guests into Ekber Sürsal's multifaceted world.
Ekber Sürsal's practice is based on a multi-layered visual language nourished by geographies where civilizations, cultures, and beliefs have accumulated and left their mark. The artist's "Timeless and Urban Layers" The mixed exhibition, consisting of works grouped under these themes, will welcome visitors for a month. Sürsal's approach views the city's historical heritage not merely as a sum of traces left from the past, but as a memory space reinterpreted with each glance. Bringing together stone, metal, paper, resin, copper, wood, and contemporary industrial materials, Sürsal establishes a poetic yet powerful relationship between the natural and the artificial, the past and the present, dream and reality.
