Metro Türkiye Presents Plaques to Michelin-Winning Restaurants
Restaurants included in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide, one of the world's most prestigious restaurant rating systems, will proudly display their plaques, provided by Metro Türkiye...
Since it started operating in our country in 1990, it has been working with Turkish chefs to ensure that Turkish cuisine reaches the place it deserves in the world. Metro Turkeyconsidered the world's most reputable restaurant rating system. MICHELIN GuideMetro Turkey continues to be the main partner of the Michelin Guide this year as well. Restaurants in Istanbul, Izmir, and Mugla, which are included in the Michelin Guide's selections, received their plaques, which they will proudly display, at special gatherings organized by Metro Türkiye. In events held separately in each destination, a total of 151 restaurants, 34 of which were new, were presented with their plaques.
David Antunes, CEO of Metro Turkey, stated that as the first international retailer to invest in Türkiye, they work with the mission of preserving Turkish cuisine. He said, “At Metro Turkey, we believe that cuisine is not just about the plate; it is about the ingredients, recipes, effort, and passion reflected in the service. This belief has bound us to Türkiye for 36 years. Because this country has extraordinary local products, a deep-rooted culinary culture, and people who truly value food. From day one, our goal has been not just to supply products to chefs, but to stand by them. To be a long-term solution partner that contributes to the strengthening and increased visibility of Turkish cuisine in the world. This partnership is why we see our collaboration with the MICHELIN Guide as part of our business. The fact that the MICHELIN Guide is expanding its network in Türkiye with new destinations added every year, and that it will cover all of Türkiye from next year onwards, is also a very important development. We will continue to support this journey of Turkish cuisine shoulder to shoulder with our chefs and restaurants.”
A Unique Meeting Point for Each Destination
Metro Turkey, celebrating the increasing number of destinations and restaurants included in the Turkish section of the Michelin Guide each year, held its plaque presentation ceremonies this year at the venues that successfully made it into the guide. The European side of these special gatherings in Istanbul was held at Biz Istanbul, which is on the Recommended list in the 2026 selection, while the Anatolian side took place at Telezzüz, which is both on the Recommended list and honored with the Green Star in the 2026 selection. Restaurants in Izmir that qualified for the Michelin Guide received their plaques at La Mahzen, which is on the Bib Gourmand list in the 2026 selection. Award-winning restaurants in Muğla received their plaques at Karnas Vineyards, which is also on the Recommended list in the 2026 selection.
The award-winning restaurants of the Cappadocia region, which is included in the MICHELIN Guide's selection for the first time this year, are preparing to receive their plaques at an event to be held on February 4th, hosted by Reserved Cappadocia, which is on the Recommended list in the 2026 selection. Metro Turkey is excitedly continuing its preparations for this gathering that will accompany this new destination's gastronomic journey.
It contributes to the global promotion of local cuisine.
Metro Turkey continues its work with an approach focused on increasing the value of local culinary culture on a global scale. In this regard, it contributes to national and international gastronomy competitions, and creates a platform for different cuisines to learn from each other through training and sharing programs with chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants. While continuing its efforts to make local and geographically registered products more visible in Turkish cuisine, both through traditional and innovative interpretations, it also implements projects aimed at increasing the international recognition of these products.
