Club Marvy Wins Gold Award at Global Responsible Tourism Awards | HORECA TREND

Club Marvy, announced last month Following the European Responsible Tourism Awards, it also won the gold award in the “All Inclusive” category at the 2025 Global Responsible Tourism Awards.

Twenty-four successful businesses from around the world were selected as finalists in the awards, sponsored by Sabre, which evaluated businesses on the criteria of providing clear evidence, reusability, innovation, impact, sustainability, and overall commitment to responsible tourism. The awards ceremony, held in London on November 3rd, selected winners in four different categories, and Club Marvy received a gold award in the "All Inclusive" category.

Six businesses won gold awards, including a regenerative walking route in Bali, an educational centre in South Africa, an all-inclusive resort in Tanzania, a waste management initiative in Malaysia and a pioneering peace-focused tour operator.

It stood out with its sustainable gastronomy and local supply policies.

In the statement, it was emphasized that Club Marvy sees sustainable gastronomy as a core value, saying, "The hotel adopts local procurement policies in order to strengthen the local economy, promote healthy living, contribute to the protection of the environment and the maintenance of traditional agricultural practices."

“Exceptional examples of innovation and creative solutions”

ICRT Global Founder and Jury Chair Emeritus Professor Harold Goodwin commented on the awards:

Responsible tourism is about creating better places for people. As clearly stated in the 2022 Responsible Tourism Declaration, there are a wide range of ways businesses and destination managers can take responsibility. In our evaluation, it was crucial that organizations back up their impact statements with concrete data. The Global Responsible Tourism Award winners were businesses that could clearly explain the steps they are taking in these areas. They are all doing extraordinary work that others should emulate. These are exceptional examples of innovation and creative solutions. As judges, we hope these efforts will inspire and motivate tourism businesses around the world.

“With our sustainability steps, we add a piece of nature to the spirit of Marvy.”

Paloma Hotels Group Chairman & CEO Ece Tonbul spoke on the subject as follows:

"We are incredibly proud that Club Marvy has become a globally recognized brand in sustainable tourism. Following our success in Europe, this global recognition is a testament to our consistent environmentally and socially responsible approach over the years. This is a testament to the success of everyone who believes in our journey, from our employees and guests to our investors and all our stakeholders."

For us, sustainability is a way of life. In all the investments we make in this area—for example, as we bring solar energy into our lives, meticulously manage our resources, and strive to preserve the earth's cycle—we truly incorporate every element of nature into the spirit of Marvy. Motivated by the awards we've received, we will continue to strengthen our efforts to reflect this understanding.

Sustainable Tourism Certificate holder

Club Marvy previously demonstrated its full compliance with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria, the global standard or norm for sustainable tourism, achieving Level 3 in the Sustainable Tourism Program and earning its certification. The certification signifies that guests who prioritize the planet and the environment will be staying at a property that aligns with their lifestyle and principles, thus ensuring that these properties are the preferred choice.

Sustainability practices that earned Club Marvy a gold award

  • Club Marvy has an approach that integrates sustainable tourism into all its processes.
  • It builds a culture of living in harmony with the environment by preserving the natural heritage, respecting the local culture and contributing to the well-being of the local people.
  • It carries out its projects with such meticulous care that not a single tree is harmed from the construction phase onwards; it protects groundwater by purifying seawater with Reverse Osmosis technology, and it enriches the soil naturally by using the beneficial bacteria in the purified water for garden irrigation.
  • Club Marvy, which respects the cycle of nature, recycles many organic wastes, from eggshells to tea pulp; maintains the balance of the soil with coal ash and leaves sustainable resources for the future by producing energy from waste.
  • While silent and carbon-neutral transportation is provided with electric vehicles within the facility, guests and employees are also included in this transformation with charging stations.
  • In the kitchens, waste is prevented with a “zero waste” approach, and menus are planned according to guest preferences.
  • Thanks to renewable energy investments, 9 Paloma Hotels now operate entirely on solar energy, generating 50 million kWh of clean energy annually, preventing 33 tons of carbon emissions. This provides the environmental benefit equivalent to planting 500.000 trees and transferring an additional 15 million kWh of clean energy to the national grid.
  • Photocell systems, energy-efficient devices and regular inspections support energy and water savings.
  • Prioritizing local suppliers, Club Marvy cultivates the bounty of the Aegean in its cuisine. With its annual Pomegranate Harvest and Abundance events held every September, it respects the natural cycle and celebrates the cultural value of sharing and togetherness.
  • While establishing a structure based on local craftsmanship and organic production from its decoration to its cuisine, it also shares this awareness with its guests.
  • Environmental awareness is increased with QR codes in the rooms, and children learn about sustainable living through recycling and nature workshops.
  • By providing regular training to its staff and raising awareness by appointing a "Sustainability Ambassador" each month, Club Marvy is pioneering an inspiring, nature-friendly transformation in the tourism sector.
