Taking a significant step in its sustainability journey , Burger King , in collaboration with TAB Gıda and the ÇEVKO Foundation, is bringing plastic waste back to life through a recycling project. Launched with the motto "This Has a Big Recycling Potential," the project was initially implemented at its Caddebostan and Acıbadem branches.
Special recycling bins installed throughout the restaurant allow for the easy collection of single-use plastics like coffee cup lids, plastic spoons, and ice cream containers for recycling. The waste collected separately at Burger King restaurants is regularly delivered to the Kadıköy Municipality and directed to recycling facilities. This reuse of this waste contributes to environmental protection.
The special recycling bins located at Caddebostan and Acıbadem Burger King restaurants feature a user-friendly design. Their explanatory images immediately answer the question, "Which waste goes where?"; recycling is both easy and fun. This initiative is a meaningful step for adults who want to contribute to sustainability, while also fostering sustainability awareness in children. The positive feedback received from customers during the pilot phase will allow the project to be quickly expanded to other restaurants.
Stating that recycling is not only about the environment but also a social responsibility, TAB Gıda CMO Caner Alpaslan said ; “We are proud to take concrete steps towards sustainability in our restaurants, where we host hundreds of thousands of people every day. Through this practice, we contribute to the recycling of waste together with our guests and encourage an environmentally friendly lifestyle. We are especially taking responsibility for ensuring that young generations grow up with environmental awareness. The involvement of all segments of society in this process plays a major role in making sustainable transformation permanent. At this point, working together with the ÇEVKO Foundation, which has been carrying out important work in the field of sustainability for many years, is a valuable partnership for us. In the coming period, we are determined to expand these kinds of projects in our different restaurants, transform our environmental impacts into sustainable solutions, and create value for our common future.”
Mete İmer, Secretary General of the ÇEVKO Foundation, commented on the project, which came to life through the collaboration of Burger King and TAB Gıda: “Sustainability refers to a cycle that encompasses not only national governments and companies, but also individuals. Recycling is one of the most important components of this cycle, and the first step is the separate collection of waste at the source. Simple behavioral choices in our homes and in every aspect of our daily lives create significant value in this area. Raising environmental awareness and recycling consciousness in individuals, especially children, has always been and remains one of our Foundation's fundamental priorities. We are delighted to collaborate with Burger King, a brand that is a part of the daily lives of millions of people in our country and around the world, and TAB Gıda, the company that brought this valuable brand to our country, on this project.”
Burger King's project, carried out under the motto "This Business Has a Big Return," not only contributes to waste management but also leads the way in reducing environmental impact, supporting sustainability, and strengthening recycling awareness in society.
