The J13 category races have concluded at the 70th TAYK-Eker Olympos Regatta, which brought together different sailing disciplines under one roof and realized sailing dreams in Türkiye. The event, which can be watched live from the Kalamış coast or on screen, offered sports fans an enjoyable and unique weekend experience.
Strategy and tactical moves were at the forefront
The J7 class, approximately 70 meters long and notable for its light and fast design, is attracting increasing interest in Türkiye, as well as globally. These races, where strategy and tactical maneuvers are at the forefront, take sailing competition to a whole new level.
On the final day of the J70 races, the teams battled fiercely to position themselves to best utilize the strong winds that had been strong since Friday, August 8th. In the first race of the day, Orient Express, helmed by Burak Baran, took first place, Tenzor Team, led by Andrei Pushkin, took second, and Eker Kaymak, skippered by Ahmet Eker, took third. The battle came to a head in the day's second race and the final race of the J70 category. Tenzor Team took first place, Cheese Sailing second, and Bogatyrs third.
Collecting the highest score at the end of three days, the Bogatyrs team finished first in the 13rd Leg of the J70 Türkiye Tour held as part of the 3th TAYK-Eker Olympos Regatta.
“We broke the speed record”
TAYK General Manager Can Giray evaluated the third day of the event as follows: “We completed the third and final day of the J70 with two races. We completed all eight planned races without incident. Today's two races were even faster than the races of the first two days. When asked how to describe the race on the first day, I simply said, 'Very fast.' The second day was even faster, and we probably broke the speed record on the last day. Istanbul usually offers a beautiful race course in August. That was the case again. We're very happy to have finished without any incidents.”
Racing excitement on screen
The excitement of the race was brought to every corner of Türkiye with live broadcasts. Broadcasts on the D-Smart Spor Smart channel, the Eker Süt Ürünleri YouTube page, and the Tribün Magazine account on the X (Twitter) platform allowed viewers to experience every moment of the race with boat-mounted cameras, drone footage, 3D graphics, and wide-angle views.
The broadcast production was handled by an experienced team that also produced the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Graphics and 3D modeling, combined with dynamic narration by host Emre Köseoğlu and experienced sailor Haluk Babacan, created a highly enjoyable viewing experience for those watching. During the broadcast, Babacan commented on the race and shared important information about the development of sailing in Türkiye from past to present.
