Operating in Turkey since 1990 with the vision of being the closest business partner of the food and beverage sector, Metro Turkey continued its warehouse expansion efforts, which began in Izmir, Bodrum, and Alanya in 2023 and continued in Ankara in 2024, with the Bayrampaşa warehouse in Istanbul, which provides deliveries to 11 districts. As part of the renovation and expansion works, the Bayrampaşa warehouse, whose distribution volume increased from 90 tons to 150 tons per day with an investment of 35 million TL, was opened with a ceremony attended by Metro Group CEO Steffen Greubel . With this new step, Metro Turkey further increased its operational efficiency, product availability, and service quality in Istanbul, the central location of the food and beverage sector in Turkey.
In his opening speech, Metro Group CEO Steffen Greubel reminded that Metro currently supports the food services industry with its products and services in more than 30 countries, and said, “Metro Turkey operates as an important business partner of the country's dynamic food services sector. Expanding our food delivery capacity in Istanbul is an important step in our strategy to offer our customers a multi-channel shopping experience. The opening of the warehouse in Istanbul will enable Metro Turkey to further improve the service it offers to its customers and expand its customer base.”
New Investment of 35 Million TL
Metro Turkey CEO David Antunes stated that they are working to deliver the best possible products and services to their customers, saying, “35 years ago, Metro was the first international retailer to invest in Turkey because of its belief in the country's potential, rich cuisine, and gastronomic culture. From the very beginning, our goal has been to be the number one solution partner for the food and beverage sector. In line with this goal, we continue to take steps that will bring us closer to our customers, enable us to meet their needs more efficiently and better, and strengthen our presence in Turkey. Recently, we tripled our warehouse capacity in Ankara. Now, we have tripled our frozen food storage area and doubled our deli storage at our Bayrampaşa store, an important center for the European side of Istanbul. We have also increased our daily food shipments from 90 tons to 150 tons, now reaching 500 customer points. With the new investment of 35 million TL in our Bayrampaşa warehouse, our aim is to provide better service to the food and beverage sector in the region with our growing operational capabilities and accelerate its development.”
