The death toll from a fire that broke out in a hotel in Bolu, Kartalkaya, one of Turkey's major ski resorts, has risen to 76, and the treatment of the injured is continuing.

Following the investigations, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya made a statement and announced that the number of people who lost their lives in the fire had risen to 76. Nine people, including the business owner, were detained as part of the ongoing investigation into the fire.

It was full due to the semester break

According to information received from the region, the fire broke out in the restaurant section of the hotel at around 03.30:12. The flames quickly spread to other sections. While the flames quickly engulfed the XNUMX-storey wooden-clad hotel building, numerous firefighting teams from Bolu and Gerede intervened in the fire.

It was stated that there were approximately 90 people in the hotel, where the occupancy rate was around 250% due to the semester break.

Fight Against Time

After the fire was noticed, the 112 Emergency Call Center was notified, and hotel staff made great efforts to evacuate the hotel guests. It was seen that sheets were tied together to get down from some hotel rooms.

A fight against time began upon the notification to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Many firefighters from Bolu and Gerede municipalities, police, gendarmerie, AFAD and health teams were dispatched to the area. The teams arrived at the scene in approximately 40-45 minutes and intervened in the flames.

Ministers at the Scene

According to information obtained from ministry sources; Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu and Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya went to the scene as soon as they received news of the fire in Bolu-Kartalkaya. It was stated that the three ministers went to Kartalkaya from Ankara.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy also made a statement on his social media account regarding the incident. Stating that the fire that broke out in a hotel in Kartalkaya Ski Center deeply saddened everyone, Ersoy noted the following: “I wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives and a speedy recovery to our injured. We continue our efforts to shed light on all aspects of the incident and take the necessary precautions. My condolences."

6 Prosecutors Appointed

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that 6 chief public prosecutors were assigned to investigate the fire disaster in Bolu, Kartalkaya and a 5-person expert committee was formed.

Minister Tunç shared the following statement on his social media account X: “The fire that broke out in a hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya deeply saddened us all. A judicial investigation was launched by the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the fire and 6 public prosecutors were assigned. In addition, a 5-person expert committee was formed. The investigation is being carried out meticulously. I wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives in the fire and a speedy recovery to our injured citizens."

National Mourning Declared

Making a statement following the Presidential Cabinet meeting, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that a 1-day national mourning was declared for the Bolu fire.
