As one of the most important business partners in the food and beverage sector for 35 years, Metro Turkey continues its efforts to ensure that Turkish cuisine achieves its rightful place on international platforms , and this year it remains the main partner of the MICHELIN Guide, considered the world's most prestigious restaurant rating system. A total of 132 restaurants included in the 2025 Istanbul, Izmir, and Mugla selections of the MICHELIN Guide received their plaques at a special ceremony organized by Metro Turkey on Thursday, January 9th, at Gastronometro, Turkey's first gastronomy discovery platform.
In his speech at the plaque ceremony attended by chefs from restaurants included in the 2025 Michelin Guide selection for Istanbul, Izmir, and Mugla, as well as representatives from the food and beverage industry, Metro Turkey CEO David Antunes emphasized that as the first international retailer to invest in Turkey, they have been working with the mission of developing Turkish cuisine and bringing it to the place it deserves since day one. He stated, “We are working to fulfill our duties and responsibilities in the best way possible to ensure that Turkish cuisine becomes more widely known throughout the world and receives the recognition it deserves, along with its chefs. In this regard, the Michelin Guide, of which we are the main partner, is of great importance in terms of introducing Turkish restaurants to the world and gastronomy tourism. With the increase in destinations in Turkey, the awareness of Turkish cuisine is increasing even more. The inclusion of 132 restaurants in the 2025 Michelin Guide selection is very valuable. In today's world, where sustainability is becoming increasingly important for our sector, the fact that 10 restaurants have received the green star is a result of the sensitive approach of Turkish chefs. We wholeheartedly believe that this list will expand much further with its chefs, producers, and service teams.” I believe," he said.
