Since 1990, Metro Turkey has been working to protect Turkish cuisine and its values and pass them on to future generations, and it places sustainability at the center of all its activities. Within this scope, Metro Turkey, which carries out many studies to support sustainable fishing, has started studies to introduce a new and local product to kitchens so that today’s fish will be preserved for tomorrow. Metro Turkey, which is the “first” brand in Turkey to offer cultured fish on its shelves under its own brand, is preparing to offer Turkish salmon to its shelves under its own brand after sea bass and sea bream. Focusing on supporting the sustainability of fishing, which has significant potential in our country, and increasing fish consumption, Metro Turkey will be one step closer to this goal thanks to Metro Premium Turkish Salmon, which is fed with high Omega-3 content algae oil-added feeds produced by Skretting, a fish producer, Parlak Su Ürünleri, in collaboration.
Both Rich in Omega 3 and Sustainable
As Metro Türkiye, we see fish not only as a commercial product but also as a value that should be left to future generations. Metro Türkiye Purchasing Director Hamit Baykal, “We see contributing to the sustainability transformation of the food and beverage sector we serve and spreading sustainability to every area where food is present as one of our most important responsibilities. As one of the leading business partners of the food and beverage sector, we are excited to take another step in this direction and support the plates prepared by our professional chefs with a local product. After sea bass and sea bream, we will now be the first company to offer Turkish salmon under its own brand. The most important feature of the ‘Metro Premium Turkish Salmon’ to be produced in the Yakakent district of Samsun off the Black Sea with the contributions of Parlak Su Ürünleri is that the proportion of sea fish in its content is reduced and instead fed with feeds containing high Omega-3 content algae oil, produced by Skretting, one of the world’s largest fish feed suppliers. In this way, just like in sea bass and sea bream, we contribute to the protection of the ecosystem in the seas by preventing sea fish from becoming food with Metro Premium Turkish Salmon. "In this way, we are making room for more and more marine fish to continue living and for the fish to survive for future generations," he said.
It Will Hit the Counters in April After 227 Analyses
Metro Premium Turkish Salmon, which is targeted to be on the shelves in April, will be offered to customers with 100% traceability, as with all fish products under the Metro brand. Providing 12% traceability in a total of 100 criteria, including Turkish and Latin name, harvest date, expiration date, batch number, place of cultivation, hatchery, feed, supplier name, food safety certificate, product analysis information, nutritional values, Metro Premium Turkish Salmon will take its place on the shelves after going through a total of 227 separate quality control processes.
Less Stressed Fish with Animal Welfare
Thanks to the high nutritional value of the algae oil used when raising Metro Premium Turkish Salmon, Metro Turkey offers nutritious, reliable and delicious fish with fish richer in terms of Omega 3. Another factor considered in the project, animal welfare, also contributes to the strengthening of these features. There are between 8 and 10 kilograms of fish per cubic meter in the cages where Metro Turkey raises fish. In this way, the fish are raised in a spacious environment and are less stressed, resulting in happier and more delicious fish.
Use of Turkish Salmon Will Increase in Professional Kitchens
Metro Turkey also aims to introduce Turkish Salmon, which it is preparing to bring to the shelves, to professional kitchens and thus increase its awareness and consumption in the restaurant management ecosystem. In order for Metro Premium Turkish Salmon, which will stand out with its quality and taste thanks to its locality as well as its growing conditions and nutrition, to enter more restaurant menus, Metro Turkey has also started special recipe studies on Gastronometro, which it launched 10 years ago as our country's first gastronomy discovery platform. Believing that the increase in the use of modern recipes in addition to traditional recipes in professional kitchens will make a significant contribution to Turkish salmon consumption, Metro Turkey is determined to bring Metro Premium Turkish Salmon to professional kitchens with the most delicious recipes.
