Yorglass Leaves a Sustainable Mark on Blue Waters with 'Glass-Like Seas' Project
Yorglass, in cooperation with TURMEPA, contributed to the ecosystem by collecting 763 thousand liters of waste from the seas in three years.
Clean seas are among the most important natural resources that ensure the continuity of life, from oxygen production to climate balance. Yorglass, which focuses on sustainability in its business processes in order to leave a more livable world for the future, has been continuing the 'Glass-Like Seas' project with TURMEPA for three years in order to keep our seas clean at this point. Within the scope of the project, which provides significant support to the marine ecosystem, a total of 2024 thousand 826 liters of wastewater was collected from 154 boats in Marmaris Selimiye in the 970 season, contributing to the cleanliness of 1,2 million liters of seawater. Yorglass Board Chairman Semavi Yorgancılar, who stated that they have eliminated a total of 2022 thousand liters of waste with the work that has been ongoing since 763, stated that they have supported the protection of the life cycle on land as well as the seas with this project.
Yorglass, a global and reliable supplier of the glass industry, continues its sustainability efforts without slowing down. The company, which has focused on sustainability in every step it has taken for half a century and has been working to leave a cleaner and more livable world for the future, has achieved successes that left their mark on blue waters for three years with the 'Glass-Like Seas' project it launched with the DenizTemiz Association/TURMEPA in 2022. The project not only reduced the environmental footprint of marine tourism, but also made a significant contribution to the protection of the marine ecosystem. Within the scope of the project, the liquid waste collection boat named DenizTemiz 2024, positioned in the Selimiye bays of Marmaris in 4, collected 826 thousand 154 liters of wastewater from 970 boats throughout the season, ensuring that 1,2 million liters of seawater remained clean. With this project, which coincides with the sustainable life cycle, Yorglass, in cooperation with TURMEPA, supported the collection of 763 thousand liters of waste in blue waters at the end of three years and pioneered the entrusting of glass-like seas to future generations.
“We Proved Once Again the Importance of Our Contributions to the Environment”
Evaluating Yorglass's sustainability approach and the importance of the 'Glass Seas' project, Yorglass Board Chairman Semavi Yorgancılar; “As a company, we add value to the future not only with our success in the sector but also with our sensitivity to the environment. Thanks to our cooperation with TURMEPA, we prevent the wastewater collected from boats from mixing with the marine environment and contribute to a healthy living space for marine creatures, thus trying to prevent the deterioration of marine habitats. According to scientific research, 50 to 70 percent of the oxygen we need is produced by our seas. Therefore, this study is of vital importance not only for the continuation of life in the sea but also on land. We do not have a second world; therefore, our responsibility is great. With this sense of responsibility, the fact that our 'Glass-Like Seas' project, which we have implemented in cooperation with TURMEPA, also includes the articles of clean water and sanitary conditions, climate action, life in water, life on land and partnerships for goals within the scope of the Sustainable Development Goals determined by the United Nations is a separate source of pride for us. In short, the results we have achieved within the scope of the project prove once again how meaningful our contributions to the environment are.”
“We Will Continue to Lead Sustainability Projects”
Stating that they demonstrate their commitment to sustainability in every aspect of their operations, Celestial Quilters“We have been acting with an environmentally friendly approach in both our production processes and social responsibility projects for 50 years. In this context, our joint work with TURMEPA has been a reflection of Yorglass’s deep commitment to nature, the seas and the future, beyond being a collaboration. At the same time, with this partnership, we have focused on spreading the sustainability approach together with all our stakeholders, especially our employees and business partners. We aim to take part in studies aimed at managing our natural resources more effectively in the coming period.”
