Each Starbucks Community Store that opens in the world is a unique reflection of the community in which it is located, offering specially designed spaces where local groups can come together, connect, and organize creative events. The programs and experiences offered in the stores are designed with inspiration from the interests of Starbucks employees and the communities in which they are located. Turkey’s first Community Store will organize educational and social events for young people in collaboration with the Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG).
For one year, it will offer various training programs covering topics such as personal development, strengthening talents and skills, career planning and participation in business life. In addition, young people will be supported to gain social responsibility awareness, participate in social activities, discover their creativity through cultural and artistic activities and become more involved in society. These programs will be prepared and implemented by an expert team, trainers and consultants in the form of workshops and training sessions. In order to teach young people the value of volunteering and social responsibility and to create awareness on these issues, the first lesson of the Community Store Starbucks Common Area was held on November 23 with the participation of 15 young people.
Commenting on the opening of the 'Starbucks Common Area' Figen Ilgaz, Vice President of Starbucks Türkiye Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan He said: “As Starbucks, we always act with the desire to be much more than coffee. Since our establishment, we have been a pioneering company that values human relations as much as the art of coffee. Adding value to the society we are in and growing together with them is very important to us. At every point where we meet with the society, we aim to build a stronger and more hopeful future by building bridges from heart to heart. Our ‘Starbucks Common Area’ project, which we have implemented for the first time in Turkey, stands out as the brightest reflection of this dream and passion. With this project, we have created a special center where young people can use the inspiration they gain from experiences and learning in every area of life. While creating this special center, we have established a heart-to-heart connection with the responsibility of contributing to social development and have made this place a home for our young people. Our door is open to everyone who will share with us the responsibility of contributing to themselves and society. Because we say this is your place. We invite all young people with great excitement to learn and grow together in this magnificent ecosystem and to build our future.”
A Global Community Impact Grant of approximately $135.000 from the Starbucks Foundation will further strengthen TOG’s collaboration. Designed to address local needs in the communities where Starbucks operates, the grant will support TOG’s work at the Community Store Starbucks Common Space. Through this grant, TOG will enable 1.000 youth and children to participate in personal development and skills development training, creativity and self-expression workshops, as well as career planning and mentoring support, and opportunities for social connection and networking.
Community Volunteers Foundation General Manager Ayşe Kırımlıse; “Since 2002, we have been working to empower young people and to be a part of their projects that will create value for society. For 22 years, we have witnessed that when young people are given the opportunity; there is no limit to what they can do with their potential and energy. We also know how valuable it is to open up space for young people and share their dreams in our Support and Youth Centers in different cities of Turkey. With the Ortak Alan project that we have implemented together with Starbucks; we aim to support young people with trainings that will strengthen them in both their business and social lives and to introduce them to volunteering. We aim for young people to be inspired, establish networks, discover themselves and come together to develop projects that will create social benefit in Ortak Alan. “All young people who want to take responsibility for a sustainable and more livable world have a ‘Common Area’ here,” he said.
Kelly Goodejohn, Head of Social Impact at Starbucks“Our Global Community Impact Grants initiative is a true collaboration between the Starbucks Foundation and our licensed partners who operate Starbucks stores around the world. Our licensed partners – Alshaya Group in Turkey – nominate local NGOs that will make a meaningful impact in their communities for grants. I am thrilled that the Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG) will be able to deliver programs that will create opportunities for young people in Turkey in the new Community Store space,” he said.
'Starbucks Common Area' was designed with priorities such as flexible spaces, technological integration and sustainability, considering the lifestyle and needs of young people. In this area, young people will be able to use the inspiration they have gained from experiences and learning in every area of life. It is also a free area where they can first transform themselves and then their surroundings with these experiences.

About Starbucks
Our story began in 1971. At the time, we were retailing roasted and ground coffee, tea, and spices from a single store in Seattle's Pike Place Market. Today, we have the privilege of connecting with millions of guests in more than 80 markets every day.
In Turkey and the Middle East and North Africa region, Starbucks stores are operated by Alshaya Group in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates. We employ more than 8000 partners (employees) in Turkey alone.
Every day, we go to work hoping for two things: to share great coffee with our friends and to help make the world a little better. That was the case when the first Starbucks opened in 1971, and it's the same today. We have been sharing the same great coffee experience in Turkey since 2003.
Starbucks' mission statement is more than just words on paper—it's a philosophy that guides how business is done every day. Our mission is, “With every cup, every conversation, every community—we nurture the limitless possibilities of human connection.”
