World-famous Michelin Star chef Akira Back met with gastronomy enthusiasts for the second time at his restaurant in JW Marriott Istanbul Marmara Sea on September 25th.

Akira Back, who opened his first and only restaurant in Turkey in 2022, offered his guests an unforgettable evening full of flavor. Many celebrities attended the special night, which was colored with the performances of saxophone artist Zeynep Büyükçınar and DJ Yavuz Mert Özcan.

In addition to Akira Back's signature dishes, live sushi stands also accompanied the visual feast of the night, and guests had an unforgettable experience.

“Beyran and Gosari Look Very Similar to Each Other” 

Chef Akira Back emphasized that Turkish and Modern Japanese cuisines offer similar flavors. Especially the traditional Korean dish Yukgaejang stands out as a spicy meat soup. Prepared with rich pieces of meat and plenty of vegetables, this soup is served with white rice. The chef stated that there is a similarity between the “Gosari” (fern) in Yukgaejang and the popular “Beyran” soup in Turkey.

Use Lots of Spices in Your Meals During Winter

Drawing attention to the importance of healthy eating during the winter months, Chef Akira suggested using plenty of onion, garlic and ginger in meals. Back said that adding these flavors to meals during the winter season increases both taste and nutritional value, and added that the health benefits of spices should be taken seriously.

The chef added that many famous names such as Elon Musk, Dalai Lama, Bill Clinton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift had the chance to taste his food and all of them liked his tastes. Akira Back, who has 25 restaurants worldwide and will open 15 more, listed his three most distinctive characteristics as serious, fun and not serious.
