Obilet Announces Travel Statistics for 2024

Online travel ticketing, car rental and hotel reservation platform Obilet shared its travel statistics for 2024. The bulletin, which includes user trends and sectoral developments in the travel sector, highlights the following:

Bus and Air Travel Assessment for 2024

According to data from the State Airports Authority (DHMI), the number of passengers traveling by plane domestically in the first 2024 months of 11 was recorded as 44,1 million. This figure indicates a 2023% increase compared to the 42,2 million passengers in the same period of 4,5. The number of passengers on domestic flights is expected to exceed 2024 million by the end of 47. 2024 million people traveled on international flights in the first 11 months of 126,2. This number, compared to the 2023 million passengers in the same period of 115,2, indicates a 9,5% increase. According to data shared by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the number of passengers traveling by bus on scheduled and unscheduled flights in the first 2024 months of 11 was announced as approximately 141,8 million. Busiest Days for Travel and Accommodation

According to Obilet data, the day with the most tickets purchased for bus trips in 2024 was recorded as Sunday, April 2, 14, which is the end of both the Ramadan Feast and the second term school break. The day with the most plane tickets purchased was Saturday, June 2024, 15, the day after the Eid al-Adha holiday and the day after the schools closed. Similarly, the highest demand for car rentals was experienced on this date.

In ferry trips, Friday, August 30, 2024, the day of Victory Day, stood out as the date with the most tickets purchased via Obilet. It was stated that the majority of ferry tickets on this date were purchased for trips to the Greek Islands.

As we approach the end of the year in hotel reservations, Tuesday, December 31, 2024 has already become the date with the most reservations on the platform, leaving all other days behind.

Route-Based Changes and Price Trends in the Travel Industry

In domestic bus travel, the highest sales increase compared to 2023 was realized on the Hakkari-Van, Erzincan-Tunceli and Artvin-Iğdır routes. Abroad, the highest increases were recorded on the Istanbul-Cologne and Istanbul-Frankfurt routes.

While the highest growth in domestic ticket sales in air travel was seen on the Hatay-Ankara and Izmir-Siirt routes, the leadership in international flights was taken by the Izmir-Nicosia, Istanbul-Medina, Izmir-Tashkent, Dubai-Istanbul and Istanbul-Phuket routes.

The average price of a domestic bus ticket in December 2024 was calculated as 560 TL. This figure represented a 2023% increase compared to 40. In December 2024, the average price of a domestic flight ticket was sold for 1.537 TL, showing a 2023% increase compared to 27. The average price of an international flight ticket was calculated as 5.227 TL in the same period, showing an 2023% increase compared to 18.

The “Best” of Travel and Accommodation

According to the transactions made through Obilet, the notable “bests” of 2024 were as follows:

Bus Ticketing: The most expensive bus ticket in Turkey was sold for 2.700 TL on Thursday, August 29, 2024 on the Van-Muğla route. The most expensive bus ticket abroad was sold for 9.506 TL when converted from the Euro exchange rate on Sunday, July 07, 2024 on the Madrid-Sofia line.

Flight Ticketing: The most expensive domestic flight ticket was sold for 12.365 TL on Saturday, August 24, 2024 for the Muğla-Istanbul flight, while the most expensive international flight ticket was sold for 144.725 TL on Monday, November 04, 2024 for the Chicago-Istanbul flight.

Rent a car: The most expensive car rental transaction of the year was a 27-day rental transaction of 2024 TL, which took place on Friday, December 31, 115.463. The 14-day transaction made on Monday, October 2024, 134 was recorded as the longest car rental transaction of the year.

Hotel Reservation: The highest amount in hotel accommodation was realized with a 05-day reservation of 2024 TL made at a 5-star hotel in Antalya on Monday, August 502.907, 12.
