Aslı, one of the leading brands in food retailing, received an award from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change for its environmentally focused efforts and contribution to the zero-waste vision.
Welcoming its visitors with nearly 40 stores across Türkiye AsliBy earning the Zero Waste Certificate, it demonstrated a vision beyond its commercial activities. The brand moves away from disposable products in the work environment and adopts the use of reusable and recyclable products. In order to integrate sustainability into all business processes, it significantly reduced the consumption of disposable products by providing its employees with glass cups for tea, coffee and water consumption.
Education Plays a Big Role in Earning the Certificate
Speaking about the process leading to the Zero Waste Certificate at Aslı, which supports sustainability and environmentally friendly business practices, General Manager Bayıralan said, “We have also taken steps to make the physical conditions suitable and made the necessary arrangements in the factory and administrative buildings. We placed common waste recycling stations instead of individual garbage bins in the administrative building. We have created hazardous and non-hazardous temporary storage areas in accordance with the conditions determined by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change for the appropriate temporary storage of accumulated waste. However, one of the most important stages in gaining the certificate was the training for our colleagues explaining the transformation of waste and its contribution to the environmental ecosystem.” said.
“We Saved 2023 Trees in 500”
Continuing his evaluations of the ongoing process, General Manager Caner Bayıralan said, “In addition to establishing a waste management organization with our colleagues, our environmentally friendly practices such as recycling reusable products were awarded with the Zero Waste Certificate. Thus, we opened the doors to creating an exemplary model in the field of sustainability in chain businesses. Thanks to the waste policy we implemented, we saved 2023 kWh of energy in 350.000 and helped save approximately 500 trees.” said. Continuing his statements, Bayıralan said, "By collaborating with the Koru Sustainable Living and Environmental Protection Association (Koruder), we aim to use the food residues generated in production in compost production." He included his statements.
The Scope of Carbon Emission Reduction Studies Will Expand
Not content with obtaining the Zero Waste Certificate, Aslı aims to take her work in this regard even further. In this context, the brand aims for a business model that will minimize carbon emissions. In the coming period, the framework of the training provided to Aslı employees will be expanded and sustainability-related studies will be developed. Appropriate systems will be included to reduce the amount of electricity, water and natural gas used in the business.
