Balparmak Received I-REC International Renewable Energy Certificate

Turkey's number one natural honey brand* Balparmak was entitled to receive the I-REC International Renewable Energy Certificate by providing the electricity it consumes in all of its operations from renewable sources in 2023. Adding a new step to environmental sustainability, Balparmak received the green electricity certificate through SEPAŞ Energy.

Aiming to contribute to the sustainability of beekeeping and nature through its nature and environmental protection activities. balparmak, in its 35.000 m2 campus in Çekmeköy, Istanbul It received the I-REC zero-carbon green electricity certificate, which certifies that the electricity it consumes is obtained from renewable sources. Thanks to the certificate obtained through SEPAŞ Energy, Balparmak, which obtains its annual energy consumption of 260 MWh from renewable sources, prevented approximately 150 tons/year of CO2 emissions and saved 13.050 trees.

Balparmak, which also has the "Zero Waste Certificate" issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, aims to prevent, reduce, reuse and reproduce waste generation, as well as sending recyclable products to licensed facilities for recycling or energy recovery.

Stating that they have implemented important social responsibility and awareness activities for the protection of bee existence, which is of critical importance for the sustainability of our world, and the sustainability of the beekeeping profession, Balparmak CEO Ali Bozer continued his words as follows:

“In recent years, many studies have been carried out to reduce the carbon footprint in the world and in Turkey. In addition to state-supported practices, many companies are also taking precautions in this regard. Because reducing carbon emissions means both protecting the future of the world and ensuring the sustainability of the economy by using energy resources efficiently. Green energy, one of the most important tools we have in line with this goal; It is the energy produced by using self-renewing resources and natural processes. Unlike fossil fuels, it does not leave a carbon footprint, protects nature and is sustainable. By obtaining the I-REC International Green Energy Certificate, we have proven that the energy we consume is produced through renewable energy sources.”

The voluntary carbon credit market (VCM), a market where private sector representatives voluntarily buy and sell carbon credits to remove or reduce greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, has emerged in recent years as a critical element of sustainability and net zero goals. However, recent figures show that the agricultural sector is not fully capitalizing on the opportunities in this area. ETi Prevents 598 Kilograms of Carbon Emission by Upcycling Coffee Grounds

In this direction, the company has collaborated with Wastespresso, a local social enterprise that uses coffee pulps by upcycling them with sustainable biomaterial technology solutions and offers data-driven waste management solutions, and has added a new one to its sustainability efforts launched under the roof of “Long Live the World” by regularly collecting the pulps from the coffees used in its offices in Istanbul and using these wastes in upcycling.

Equivalent to Conversion of 883 Square Meters of Land into Forest

Taking care to spread the sustainability strategy in all business processes Thanks to this collaboration, ETi has prevented a total of 598 kilograms of greenhouse gases from being released into the atmosphere by using a sustainable alternative bioplastic raw material production method instead of traditional disposal of coffee pulp since the beginning of the year. By adding 578 kilograms of coffee pulp produced in offices to the circular economy thanks to Wastespresso instead of throwing them away, the formation of greenhouse gases equivalent to 598 kilograms of carbon footprint has been prevented. This benefit prevents the negative impact of approximately 256 liters of gasoline usage and provides a gain equivalent to converting 2 square meters of land into forest.
