Accor Shapes the Accommodation Experience Led by Sustainability
Accor, a world-leading hospitality group, places people and nature at the center of all its operations. Its hotels have a positive outlook across a broad spectrum, from their impact on local economies to their environmental effects...
Accor, the world's leading augmented hospitality group, serving with more than 110 hotels in more than 1.000 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Turkey, continues its work to reimagine hospitality and inspire new ways of experiencing the world. In this context, Accor is leading the sustainability transformation throughout the group by working in cooperation with all its stakeholders. The basis of Accor's activities is to create a positive impact on people and nature.
“We have committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050”
In a statement regarding Accor's sustainability approach, Sinan Köseoğlu, Vice President of Operations at Accor Turkey , said: “The hospitality sector plays a significant role in change because it is located at the intersection of many activities. Tourism also operates in close connection with nature, relying on natural resources and benefiting from the natural environment of each destination. Furthermore, the travel and tourism industry accounts for 9 to 12 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. At this point, there are significant expectations from all stakeholders to create more sustainable models. Therefore, at Accor, we believe that shaping a more sustainable travel experience is our mission. In accordance with the Paris Agreement, we have committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and also to absolutely reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Our approach is also based on a commitment to protecting nature and natural resources to contribute to environmentally friendly business models. In line with this understanding, we are leading change with a comprehensive approach built on three different operational pillars that address our entire hotel journey.”
Hospitality: Strengthening sustainable hotel operations
From construction to daily operations, Accor continues to take decisive action to respect the planet's natural boundaries and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It transforms and optimizes facilities' operations, such as waste management, energy and water consumption, elimination of single-use plastics, and promotion of the circular economy.
Since 2019, Accor has made strong commitments to eliminate single-use plastics encountered by guests in its hotels. In this way, while Accor contributes to changing the habits of its employees and guests, it acts with the principles of "reduce", "reuse" and "recycle". The materials used are selected according to environmental analysis and work is carried out with suppliers to improve the quality of the products.

Food operations: A sustainable food chain
Accor serves more than 10 million meals a year across more than 200 food and beverage venues, and food represents 12 percent of its carbon footprint. In this context, Accor promotes fair practices and respectful conditions for animals for local producers, as well as sourcing food more responsibly to preserve biodiversity and reduce environmental impact. It also strengthens activities aimed at reducing food waste in kitchens, offering guests more organic, local and seasonal food, and generally increasing guest awareness. For example, at Novotel Trabzon, jams made from fruits collected from the trees in the hotel's garden are served to guests for breakfast throughout the year, and informative articles are presented to raise awareness on the subject.
Explore: Introducing the local ecosystem and new ways to travel
Accor works to protect the local destinations and cultural heritage around its hotels, while also creating opportunities and connections with local communities. In this direction, Accor is working to design a more sustainable way of traveling, promoting green mobility, and inspiring greater awareness among guests that they can contribute positively to the environment, nature and local communities.
