October 1945, the date of the establishment of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 16, is celebrated every year as World Food Day. This year 'With the theme of 'The right to access food for a better life and a better future', events organized around the world draw attention to food inflation caused by global climate change and the decrease in water resources.

''Nearly 1 Billion People Face Water Scarcity''

Making statements on World Food Day Yaşabey Kalebaşı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Packaged Water Producers Association (SUDER), He emphasized the following: ''Water, one of the basic elements of food production, is indispensable for the continuity of agriculture and animal husbandry. Agricultural production consumes 69 percent of water worldwide. According to the UN World Water Development Report published in 2023, approximately 1 billion people face water scarcity and this number is likely to reach 1,7 billion to 2,4 billion in the next thirty years. This situation also presents us with an important view in terms of access to food. Food crises are experienced at the same rate in regions experiencing water scarcity. At this point, using limited water resources efficiently and integrating advanced irrigation technologies into agriculture is of critical importance in order to sustain food production.''

“Türkiye is Under Water Stress”

Pointing out that Turkey is among the countries that will be most affected by global climate change, Kalebaşı"We are a country under water stress with 1313 cubic meters of usable water per capita. A drought in the near future also poses a serious threat to our country. Our underground water resources are of great importance in terms of suffering less damage from drought," he said.

"Efficient and Sustainable Methods Should Be Used in Industry"

On the steps to be taken for the protection of groundwater Kalebaşı, ''The industrial sector should use water resources with efficient and sustainable methods. Agriculture and industry should cooperate within a holistic water management plan, and a transition should be made to applications and technologies that will use water in the most efficient way. This structure should be supported by scientific studies, water projections of application areas should be determined and medium and long-term plans should be made. Businesses in the sector should first put forward their plans to implement the Reduce-Recover-Recycle (3R) model at the source of water consumption. In addition, project steps should be taken for the recovery of wastewater released from different industries and for its use for different purposes by giving new life to water.''
